Show your Support
We clapped to show our support for all those healthcare workers who continued working throughout the pandemic, mostly without adequate protections. Many of them caught Covid-19 as a result, and of those a high proportion are now suffering from Long Covid. This has meant financial hardship for many who can no longer work as they could before, with some unable to work at all. They are often unable to pay their bills, their mortgages, or their rents. They often need adjustments made to their homes to allow them to live with their new condition but cannot afford them. Sometimes they need to retrain to get into a job they can manage with their changed physical and mental circumstances.
Make a Real Difference
With your donation we can help those people who are struggling through no fault of their own. They did their jobs, looking after our loved ones, often staying away from their own families to keep them safe. Now they find themselves unsupported by their employers and unrecognised by the government. With your donation we can offer them that support.
From a one off gift to a small monthly donation you can make a real difference and help them get back on their feet.
Payroll Giving / GAYE
Another way to donate is direct from your salary via your payroll. This is a very tax efficient way to donate as your donation is made before tax, so effectively you are reducing your own tax bill. If you choose to donate through Payroll Giving, you have full control over how much you would like to give. There is no minimum, or maximum amount.
If you pay the basic 20% tax rate, for every £1 that you earn, 20p is paid in tax.
That means if you pledge £10 a month, we’ll receive the full amount but only £8 will be deducted from your net pay.
If you pay income tax at the higher rate of 40%, you can pledge £10 a month and only £6 will be deducted from your net pay, and at the highest rate of 45%, only £5.50 would be deducted.
Plus, it is more efficient for higher rate taxpayers to donate through Payroll Giving than Gift Aid as charities are unable to claim back tax above the basic rate through the Gift Aid scheme.
The income tax applicable to the donation is paid to Suporting Healthcare Heroes instead of HMRC.
Example of pledges and costs
Employee pledge Cost to standard rate taxpayer (20%) Cost to higher rate taxpayer (40%) Cost to highest rate taxpayer (45%) £5 per month £4 £3 £2.75 £10 per month £8 £6 £5.50 £15 per month £12 £9 £8.25 £20 per month £16 £12 £11
How to start Payroll Giving
In order to payroll giving you simply need to contact your pay services and tell them that you wish to start monthly GAYE payments. If your employer is already registered for GAYE you will just need to give them the charity details (Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK, charity number 1205685) and the amount you would like to donate each month.
If they are not registered for GAYE they will need to register with one of the government approved agencies. You can find a list of those here. An even simpler way would be to complete one of these two forms from the CharitiesTrust or CharitableGiving who will then setup the payments with your company for you.
