Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK
Welcome to our second newsletter. I’m Alison Twycross, Chair of Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK (SHH-UK), and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your ongoing interest and support. Our mission is to stand shoulder to shoulder with UK healthcare workers (HCWs) affected by Long Covid, and your engagement is essential to our success.

Since becoming a charity in November 2023, we've been hard at work supporting HCWs with Long Covid. Here are some of our key achievements over the past six months:
- Website Launch: Our website is live and constantly updated with the latest information and resources.
- Long Covid Stories: We've shared powerful personal stories that highlight the challenges and small victories of living with Long Covid.
- Social Media Outreach: Through our vibrant social media platforms, we've shared crucial information and built a supportive community.
- Focus Groups: We've conducted the first in a series of focus groups with HCWs to better understand their needs and refine our support strategies.
- Online Shop: Merchandising is an important part of charity fundraising and we are pleased to report that our online shop is doing well. We are also pleased to offer our newsletter subscribers an exclusive code for free delivery for this weekend only: Friday 31st May – Sunday 2nd June (inclusive). Use the following code for free delivery at shh-uk.org/shop.
We’ve also grown our team with dedicated volunteers, including a Volunteer Coordinator, committee members, and a team working on educational resources.

Make a Difference with SHH-UK
We need more passionate volunteers to amplify our efforts. Can you help? We’re looking for individuals to assist in the following areas:
- Social Media Management: Help us manage our accounts, create and share content, design graphics, and produce podcasts and videos.
- Admin Support: Provide administrative support to our Trustee Board, committees, online support groups, and events.
- Fundraising: Join our fundraising committee, run your own event (e.g., coffee mornings, cake sales, sponsored events), or encourage people to set up payroll giving.

Our Vision for the Next 12 Months
We have ambitious plans for the year ahead:
- Increase our Membership: Build our numbers of registered users of HCWs living with Long Covid so that we can become a real voice representing their best interests and provide a real community
- Boost Fundraising: So that we can help financially support HCWs in need we will establish sustainable income streams through regular and one-off donors as well as grants.
- Expand Online Resources: Increase the resources available on our website.
- Strengthen Support Systems: Set up sustainable online individual and group support for HCWs with Long Covid.
- Develop Educational Materials: Create new educational resources for HCWs and the broader community.
- Media Collaboration: Partner with journalists to highlight the issues and stories of HCWs with Long Covid.
- Enhance Governance: Recruit two additional trustees to guide our mission.
Thank you for standing with us in this critical mission.
