Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK
Welcome to our first newsletter of 2025 I’m Alison Twycross, Chair of Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK (SHH-UK), and I and the Board of Trustees want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your ongoing interest and support. Our mission is to stand shoulder to shoulder with UK healthcare workers (HCWs) affected by Long Covid, and your engagement is essential to our success.
It’s hard to believe, but winter IS almost over, and we’re hopefully starting to head into spring, which means our 2025 programme is taking shape on supporting all healthcare workers with Long Covid.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) & priorities for 2025/6
We are legally required to hold an AGM, where we present our annual report, which sets out what we achieved in our first year of being a charity.
This is being held online over Microsoft Teams, and anyone can attend. Immediately after the short AGM, we will present our plans for 2025 alongside an exciting campaign launch.
The AGM is on Wednesday, 12th March from 1530-1630
Note: You do not need to install Microsoft Teams to attend the AGM, as it can be accessed online. We look forward to meeting you, engaging with you, and hearing how we can help.

Our Cognitive dysfunction group
Many healthcare workers with Long Covid have cognitive dysfunction and often feel isolated and alone. To help support them, we have run several online support groups. Our next online cognitive dysfunction support group will be held at 5 pm on Wednesday, 26th February.

We look forward to seeing some of you there. To register, click

News from SHH-UK HQ
Walk for SHH-UK
Gerry Bolger, one of our trustees, will be walking almost 300km from Porto in Portugal to Santiago de Compostela in Spain in aid of SHH-UK. This will be over 12 days with one rest day!
He’s set a significant goal of £20,000, but we’ve already achieved 10% of this, so please, can you spread the word in your networks to get donations?
Remember, selecting Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer means we get 25% on top of your donation. To donate, go to our dedicated JustGiving page by clicking 'donate now'

New Trustees
We’ve appointed two new Trustees
Dolores, or Loli as she prefers to be known, is a public health practitioner with a strong focus on change management and research focus. She is also our safeguarding lead.
Adebola Abdulazeez Badiru joined us very recently; he is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist by background and an accomplished clinical leader in his field

Our online shop
We are refreshing our shop to reflect feedback, so it’s currently showing Long Covid Awareness pins, which will be posted out at the beginning of March ahead of Long Covid Awareness Day (March 15th).
