Public health guidance on Covid-19 has changed considerably since 2023, with many countries scaling back recommendations on vaccination, masking and physical distancing. This John Snow Project analysis compares current international guidance.

The John Snow Project finds that, despite a general narrowing of Covid-19 precautions since 2023, public health authorities in several countries continue to recognise preventing Covid-19 infection as the primary way to prevent Long Covid. This includes guidance from the US, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Canada, alongside the World Health Organization, reinforcing the importance of measures that reduce transmission rather than relying on vaccination alone.

SHH-UK will continue to lobby the UK Government and other key decision-makers to prioritise preventing Covid-19 infections and reduce the growing number of people developing Long Covid.
