The leaflet can be accessed below with a summary of the content also provided.

The content of the leaflet is summarised below.

Long Covid and PIP

  • PIP is a non-means tested UK benefit for those with long-term health conditions or disabilities.
  • Individuals aged 16 to state pension age with Long Covid lasting over three months may be eligible.
  • Claiming involves completing a form and undergoing a medical assessment, often by telephone.

Claiming Process

  • Organise your claim by keeping a record in an A4 file.
  • Seek support from trusted local and national advice services.
  • Plan the timing of your initial call to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Evidence Gathering

  • Collect medical evidence from healthcare professionals and keep a diary of daily activities.
  • Family and friends can provide statements about the impact of Long Covid on daily life.
  • Submit evidence before the medical assessment, as no further evidence can be added afterward.

Application Form

  • Complete the application form online or request a paper copy, pacing yourself as needed.
  • Highlight difficulties in everyday activities and reference medical evidence in your form.

Medical Assessment Preparation

  • Have someone accompany you during the assessment for support.
  • Prepare key points to discuss and keep your file of information handy.
  • Communicate your feelings and needs during the assessment.

FAQs

  • Individuals with Long Covid can claim PIP if symptoms affect daily activities.
  • PIP is non-means tested, so savings or income do not affect eligibility.
  • If not awarded PIP, individuals can request a mandatory reconsideration or appeal.
