A new briefing paper published on 19th June underscores the devastating impact of proposed PIP cuts on people with Long Covid and ME. The report is based on the survey many of you completed.

Key Findings:

  1. Cutting PIP will push people with ME and Long Covid further from the labour market..
  2. The proposed PIP reforms will remove a vital source of support for people with ME and Long Covid.
  3. The current PIP assessments already systematically underestimate the disabling impact of ME and Long Covid.

Recommendations:

  1. Withdraw the proposed PIP reforms, which will cause avoidable harm, are based on flawed assumptions, and will fail to meet their stated goals.
  2. Develop a new Disability Strategy co-produced with disabled people.
  3. Address systemic flaws in how PIP applications are assessed.
  4. Invest in biomedical research and accessible healthcare
  5. Embed these actions within the forthcoming ME/CFS Delivery Plan

There’s still time to write to your MP to ask them to oppose the cuts. Find out more in the Long Covid Support leaflet which can be accessed here.
