Respirators help reduce the spread of airborne infections
See how masks reduce respiratory particles released into shared air, helping limit airborne transmission and protect both the wearer and people nearby.
In June 2026, Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK and 19 partner organisations wrote to Sharon Hodgson MP, the then Minister for Health Promotion and Prevention, calling for stronger action to prevent COVID-19 infections and reduce the growing burden of Long Covid. The letter sets out the evidence for a prevention-first approach, highlighting the importance of recognising airborne transmission, improving indoor air quality, updating infection prevention guidance and ensuring access to appropriate respiratory protective equipment to better protect healthcare workers, patients and the wider public.
