How you can support us at SHH-UK with donations

This is because many healthcare workers with Long Covid have found themselves in significantly reduced financial circumstances, unable to pay bills, mortgages or rent. These healthcare workers have been let down by their employers and the government. We need to raise funds to support those who cared for us.

There are several ways you can donate and help us with this goal and today’s blog is all about how you can support us with this. If you are not able to donate yourself, sharing this blog could reach someone who can donate to this much needed area.

Donate through our website

We accept regular and one-off donations through our website here. Monthly donations, even for a small amount, are vital to our sustainability and ability to support healthcare workers with Long Covid. You can donate with PayPal or using your credit card. If you are a UK taxpayer, you can add in the Gift Aid option. That means that we can claim an extra 25p on every £1 someone donates. There is no laborious setting up to do to donate; it is quick and easy by filling in just one form.

Easyfundraising

Easyfundraising logoA low commitment way to support us is to use easyfundraising when you shop online. Easyfundraising describes how it works as “easyfundraising partners with over 7000 brands who will donate part of what you spend to a cause of your choice. It won’t cost you any extra, the cost is covered by the brand.” You can make SHH-UK your cause of choice here and there is a browser extension you can download for ease. You simply head through to your normal online shopping sites going through easyfundraising first, and they pay us a percentage of what you spend, costing you nothing! We are already starting to see a trickle of donations coming in from those who have signed up, so this can really make a difference for us and those we want to support. If you have already donated another way, we would love you to sign up for easyfundraising as well.

Payroll giving

Another way to donate is directly from your salary via your payroll. This is a tax efficient way to donate as your donation is made before tax, so effectively you are reducing your own tax bill. If you choose to donate through Payroll Giving, you have full control over how much you would like to give. There is no minimum, or maximum amount.

If you pay the basic 20% tax rate, for every £1 that you earn, 20p is paid in tax. That means if you pledge £10 a month, we will receive the full amount but only £8 will be deducted from your net pay. If you pay income tax at the higher rate of 40%, you can pledge £10 a month and only £6 will be deducted from your net pay, and at the highest rate of 45%, only £5.50 would be deducted. Plus, it is more efficient for higher rate taxpayers to donate through Payroll Giving than Gift Aid as charities are unable to claim back tax above the basic rate through the Gift Aid scheme. The income tax applicable to the donation is paid to Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK instead of HMRC.

To use payroll giving, you simply need to contact your employer pay services and tell them that you wish to start monthly Give As You Earn (GAYE) payments. If your employer is already registered for GAYE you will just need to give them the charity details (Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK, charity number 1205685) and the amount you would like to donate each month. If they are not registered for GAYE they will need to register with one of the government approved agencies. You can find a list of those here. An even simpler way would be to complete one of these two forms from the CharitiesTrust or CharitableGiving who will then setup the payments with your company for you. If you have any issues send us an email at info@shh-uk.org and we’ll do our best to help.

grateful

We are grateful for each donation that we have had so far and for all the financial support that is to come. We are also working hard on getting ready to apply for grants to further boost our funds.

With your donation we can help those people who are struggling through no fault of their own. They did their jobs, looking after our loved ones, often staying away from their own families to keep them safe. Now they find themselves unsupported by their employers and unrecognised by the government. With your donation we can offer them that support.
